Jonathan Walker-Vankuren (BFA 2015) has been selected to be a Hattie Mae Lesley Apprentice Artist with Fort Worth Opera as a tenor. This is a two-year program that is in cooperation with Texas Christian University. Just four singers are chosen each year: a soprano, a mezzo-soprano, a tenor, and a bass/baritone.

The program will offer Jon an opportunity to perform supporting roles while covering leading roles with FWO, receive training with the company, as well as receive an artist diploma from TCU.

This summer, Jon was selected to the Festival Artist Program at Utah Festival Opera and Musical Theater, where he performed several roles in mainstage productions. He has also returned for a second year to the Savannah Voice Festival as a member of the Milnes Voice Studio. This program was started by legendary American baritone, Sherril Milnes. Jon has also been Chrisman Studio Artist at Opera Santa Barbara.

While at IUP, Jon studied voice with Joseph Baunoch.
