Author Reading: New American Humor

Posted on 3/16/2017 9:28:03 PM

Jim O’Loughlin, an associate professor of English at the University of Northern Iowa, where he teaches courses in American literature, creative writing, and digital humanities, will read from his book Dean Dean Dean Dean, a collection of satirical flash fiction.

With Dean, Dean, Dean, Dean, O’Loughlin adds a touch of the absurd to the proud tradition of American humor writing established by Mark Twain and added to by authors such as James Thurber, Woody Allen, Steve Martin, and, most recently, David Sedaris.

The collection includes some experimental pieces as well as more traditionally told narratives that have been published in such literary journals as La Petite Zine, North American Review, and McSweeney's Internet Tendency
