President Michael Driscoll has selected Patricia McCarthy to serve as interim vice president for Enrollment Management and Communications. She will begin in this position on October 3, 2016.

McCarthy has held the role of associate vice president in the division since October 2012.

“The Enrollment Management and Communications Division is extremely important to the university’s immediate and long-term success, working in collaboration with all divisions of the university,” IUP President Michael Driscoll said.

“Patti’s long-time familiarity, engagement, and love for this institution is very clear. She has demonstrated both innovative and pragmatic thinking and action, and has shown her ability to make positive change happen, as well as maintain good, strong, ongoing work.

“I feel confident that she will continue in this fashion, and she will be key in helping the university to set a vision for our future. We will take our time to evaluate our present and to plan our next steps, which I anticipate will include a national search,” Driscoll said.

In her role as associate vice president, McCarthy supervises the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, Academy of Culinary Arts administrative services and admissions, the Office of Financial Aid, the University Testing Center, and the Career and Professional Development Center.

She was appointed by the president to chair the IUP Intercollegiate Athletic Compliance Committee and has continued service on many university committees and leadership groups, including the University Senate, Veterans’ Resource Center Committee, Academic Excellence Steering Committee, Middle States Subcommittee on Student Admissions, Retention, and Support Services, University Planning Committee, and University Budget Advisory Council. She is a member of Phi Kappa Phi.

In January, she was elected to serve a three-year term on the College Board Middle States Regional Council. The Middle States Regional Council represents Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and Washington, D.C. She also has presented at several professional conferences.

McCarthy began work at IUP in 1995 as assistant director of the Office of Financial Aid. She served as the associate director of the office from December 2001 to July 2005, when she was selected as director of the Office of Financial Aid. Before joining in the IUP community in 1995, she was the assistant director of financial aid and student employment coordinator for La Roche College.

McCarthy has a bachelor of science degree in applied psychology from IUP, a master of science degree in human resource management from La Roche College, and a DEd degree in Administration and Leadership Studies from IUP.

James Begany, current vice president of the division, will leave the university on September 28 to accept a position at the University of Louisville.
