Tanya Heflin (Department of English) and Jessica Miller (Counseling Center) were selected to represent IUP at the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education Leadership Institute for Faculty Women, a week-long leadership institute hosted biannually by the state system Women’s Consortium.
Focused on the development of leadership opportunities for women across state system institutions, the Leadership Institute provides an immersive experience of networking, strategy-based workshops, interactive presentations, and think-tank project planning.
The Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education Women’s Consortium serves women at all levels of the state system institutions: students, faculty, staff, and administration. The consortium also hosts annual leadership institutes for students and alternating biannual leadership institutes for faculty and staff.
Designed to advocate for expanded leadership opportunities, gender equity, and diversity at the top levels of rank throughout the state system, the 2016 Leadership Institute for Faculty Women focused on skill-building and networking opportunities for diverse women leaders across all state system institutions.
Supported by funding from the President’s Commission on the Status of Women at IUP, the IUP Office of Social Equity, and the IUP Office of the President, Heflin and Miller capped their leadership institute experience by helping to found a state-system-wide task force to expand leadership training for women and to deepen awareness of sexual assault concerns across state system campuses.
