IUP Community Music School logoThe IUP Community Music School is continuing to take registrations for all fall 2015 offerings, including private lessons, ensembles, and classes.

Following a year of growth, including a successful lesson program and three ukulele camps during the summer, the IUPCMS is prepared for another great year of music teaching, learning, and performances. With instructors for every instrument—some new and many returning—the IUPCMS will once again provide the support and instruction necessary for students of all ages to attain their musical goals.

Individual lessons continue to be the most popular program of the IUPCMS, with students ranging from age five to 70 and all different ability levels. The cost of a lesson starts as the highly affordable rate of $12.50 for 30 minutes with a teaching apprentice.

Ensembles also continue to grow. With the addition of a high school-age choir that primarily sings music a capella, there are now four ensembles available. The other three are the Indiana Community Choir for ages 14 through adult, the Crimson Children’s Choir for ages 8 to 13, and the Indiana Symphonic Winds (community band) for ages 15 through adult.

The Symphonic Winds is now combined with the IUP Concert Band, which will provide an even richer musical and learning experience.

With the exception of the new Music Together® early childhood classes on Saturday mornings, the IUPCMS classes have stayed the same, offering piano, guitar, and bagpipes.

The Music Together classes are a new music and movement class that replaces last year’s Musikgarten classes. What stays the same, though, is that it is an internationally recognized program with a nearly 30-year record of success. It is a highly researched program that provides a rich musical classroom environment that facilitates family participation in spontaneous musical activities at home, which is very important to music development and early childhood learning.

To register as a new student, visit the IUPCMS homepage and use the blue “Register Now” button, or simply e-mail community-music@iup.edu if you are a returning student.

If you have questions, e-mail community-music@iup.edu or call Jeff Wacker 724-357-4565 or the IUP Music Department office at 724-357-2390.

The IUP Community Music School is a program supported in part by donations from S&T Bank, IUP Dining, and a generous private gift, with additional support provided by the support of the College of Fine Arts. The IUPCMS also is support by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts through a Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts Grant managed through the Pennsylvania Rural Arts Alliance.
