George Braunegg Inducted into Eberly Hall of Distinction

Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s Eberly College of Business and Information Technology honored George Braunegg, a 1979 accounting graduate of the Eberly College of Business and Information Technology, with induction into the Hall of Distinction during its 2015 Business Day.

Charles Stevenson Memorial Business Day, now in its 37th year, is the college’s premier event, bringing together more than 700 students with business leaders for networking and business career programming.

The goal of the Hall of Distinction is to recognize the professional success and good citizenship of graduates of the college and others associated with its advancement.

“The Eberly College of Business is extremely proud of its Hall of Distinction members,” Robert Camp, dean of the college, said. “Recipients of this honor are selected because of their long-term commitment to professional excellence, their status as role models within the business community and to the broader society, and their long-term support of the university.”

Braunegg, who lives in Los Angeles, is executive vice president and founding principal of CAST Management Consultants, Inc. He founded the company in 1986 with two colleagues from KPMG. Today, CAST (Center for Applied Strategy) is a highly regarded boutique management consulting firm serving the financial services industry. While the company has worked with businesses in Europe, Asia and South Africa, its primary market focus is the United States and Canada. The company was listed by Consultants News as one of the 100 leading consulting firms in North America. Its clients include AXA, American Express, Ameriprise, Bank of America, , BNY Mellon, Capital One, ING, JP Morgan Chase, Northwestern Mutual, Pacific Life, PNC and Wells Fargo, among others. CAST’s major areas of practice include organizational/delivery model optimization and corporate, marketing, distribution strategy.

Braunegg, a native of Charleroi, was the first person to pass the CPA examination prior to graduation from IUP. He is a CPA in California and Pennsylvania and earned the Certified Treasury Professional/Certified Cash Manger designation. In 2005, he was recognized by the Eberly College with its Outstanding Entrepreneur Award.

Following his graduation from IUP, he received a full scholarship to attend the University of Southern California, where he earned an MBA in 1981 from the Marshall School of Business. After graduation, he joined KPMG’s (Peat Marwick) Management Consulting Group. He worked at KPMG until founding CAST in 1986.

A long-time director on the Board of Volunteers of America Los Angeles, he is a member of the audit, finance and executive committees. An Eagle Scout, he has also served as an assistant scout master. He has been active with Theta Xi fraternity, serving as the western regional director. He currently serves as the leadership advisor to the Theta Xi chapter at UCLA. He and his wife, Janet Louie, are the parents of a son, George, who is currently a junior at the University of Colorado, Boulder.
