Joe York as BeadleJoe York (IUP ’12—Musical Theater) recently moved back to Pittsburgh after living in NYC for two years pursuing/receiving an MFA in musical theatre writing from the Tisch School of the Arts. The degree is specially designed for the major collaborators in the creation of new musical theater and opera: composers, lyricists, and book writers.

This summer, he played the Beadle in a “progressive metal” version of Sweeney Todd at Landless Theatre Company in Washington, D.C. This fall, he received a playwriting internship at the Pittsburgh Public Theatre, allowing him to teach acting, directing, and writing to students in their education program. He has also been hired to direct the musical at the South Side Area High School in Beaver County.
