Community Action, Inc. of Jefferson County recently teamed with IUP Punxsutawney to provide workforce and career development classes for the region’s adult learners.
Current classes include: GED Preparation, Adult Basic Education, English as a Second Language, Reading and Math Refresher, and New Choices Career Development. While class times vary to accommodate the needs of the adult student, all classes are held on Mondays and Wednesdays.
Tonya Mauk, Career Development Supervisor, said, “We are pleased to be partnering with the IUP Punxsutawney campus to offer area residents an opportunity for learning and becoming comfortable in a higher education environment. This partnership not only encourages learning and personal growth, but will also help students set goals beyond a high school education.”
Punxsutawney Dean Terry Appolonia echoed the mutually beneficial nature of the collaboration. “Serving the community’s post-secondary needs is a longstanding tradition of the IUP Punxsutawney campus, and we are delighted to broaden that support. We are particularly pleased to be able to contribute to the region’s workforce development.”
