Thirty students from IUP’s Department of Theater and Dance performed and presented design and dramaturgical displays at the Region 2 Festival of the American College Theater Festival held at West Chester University January 15–18, 2014.
The festival gathers over 1,000 students and faculty from an eight-state region to perform invited plays, take workshops, and demonstrate their creative achievements to one another.
IUP performance students Caleb Feigles and Lydia Gibson were selected for the semi-final round of 32 from nearly 200 students competing for the Irene Ryan Acting Award at Region 2 of the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival. With their scene partners Adam Fladd and Brandon Clemons, Feigles and Gibson presented scenes from the musical Rock of Ages and Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest, among others.
Theater major Devon Pettie was named runner-up for the National Award in Dramaturgy for her presentation of research on The Optimist, written by IUP playwright Jason Chimonides and performed this past fall under the direction of guest professor April Daras. Should the winner choose not to go, Pettie will be invited to attend the National Festival at the Kennedy Center in April.
