How Do I...?

The application process for SHP will follow the Dual Enrollment application process. Please see below for applicant requirements and the steps to apply.

Requirements

• School counselor approval
  • Required for all Dual Enrollment students
• Minimum 3.0 Cumulative GPA (CGPA)
• Must be a rising high school sophomore, junior, or senior

Steps to Apply

• Visit our Dual Enrollment page and scroll down to the How to Apply section
• In the How to Apply section, complete:
  • The online application
  • The registration form
  • The official transcript request form

Make sure to follow each step carefully, and reach out to visiting-student@iup.edu for assistance. The Visiting Student Admissions office will admit and register students once the application and all required paperwork are received.

Application Deadline: May 21

All students participating in SHP must download and complete the following forms (TBP): 

1. Code of Conduct for Participant
2. Health Form
3. Participant Agreement, Permission Form - Overnight
4. Photo Release Form
5. Waiver of Liability, Assumption of Risk, and Indemnity Agreement

When all forms are filled out and signed, save each form with the student's first and last name in the file name (ex. "Doe, Jane - Code of Conduct for Participant"). Send all completed forms to honors@iup.edu. Do not email each form individually or in groups. Wait to email them until all five forms are complete and send them all in one email.

Log in to MyIUP using the @iup.edu email and password that was set up upon admission. This is where students access IUP accounts such as D2L, IUP email, and EasyPay. Students also have a Success Team card. This team is comprised of the student’s academic advisor, Navigator, and any other personnel applicable to their academic career at IUP.

To Access D2L, log in to MyIUP, locate the “Quicklinks” card, and click the D2L button to log in (refer to image above). The course will be present on the home page of D2L. Click into the class and browse the tabs at the top to view the different sections.

1. Content: all course materials (syllabus, readings, PowerPoint slides, videos, upcoming assignments/assessments, etc.)
2. Assessments: submit/complete assignments and quizzes; view class progress, grades, and awards
3. Communication: announcements, the class list, and discussions
   1. Discussion posts and replies are a very common tool of collaboration in online classes
4. Resources: the course calendar, checklist, and other links
   
   

The D2L homepage has a number of buttons in the top right that are useful for students.

1. Select a course...: A search feature to find a course in D2L
2. Message alerts: View Instant Messages (IMs) and Emails within D2L. Anyone in the D2L course can send IMs and emails to each other. Any assignment submission will also trigger an email of submission receipt.
3. Subscription alerts: Subscriptions are used for discussion posts. Students can choose to subscribe to an entire discussion post, to just their own post, or to nothing. Alerts will be any posts/replies to the subscribed post.
4. Update alerts: Notifications of due date reminders, updated/uploaded content, announcements, etc.
5. Student initials/name: Contains
   1. Profile – add a profile picture, social networks, and contact information
   2. Notifications – customize email notifications. Students can select to have D2L send notifications to their IUP (system) email or a personal (custom) email. Many students turn on notifications for announcements, assignment reminders, and when a grade is posted.
   3. Account Settings – add pronouns, adjust the font settings, customize settings for the discussion board (viewing and posting), and customize internal email settings to include adding a signature, display options, and forwarding options (forward incoming messages to an alternate email)
   4. Preferred Language – the default is US English and cannot be changed from this.
   5. Log Out
6. Admin Tools: Nothing applicable on the student side of D2L.

EasyPay is the online system used to pay bills. Students can access EasyPay through MyIUP (use "View All Cards" on the top right to search for "EasyPay"). 

There are four ways to make a payment:

1. By mail
2. In person
3. Credit card online through EasyPay
   • Only Visa, Discover, or MasterCard are accepted. There will be a 2.95 percent convenience fee.
   • Two charges will appear: one from IUP for the bill and one from TouchNet for the fee.
4. Electronic (e-check) online through EasyPay 

Students must set up an authorized user in EasyPay. To do so, log in to EasyPay through MyIUP and select Authorized User on the navigation bar (refer to image above). It is highly recommended that students add their parents/guardians as authorized users rather than letting them log in through the student’s MyIUP. Parents can access EasyPay through the Student Account site. Both the student and all authorized users will receive an email notifying them that their bill is available. 

Students have the option to enroll in a payment plan if they cannot pay their bill in one payment. To enroll, log in to EasyPay and locate the Enroll in Payment Plan button on the home page (refer to image below). Follow the steps to enroll in a payment plan for the current summer term. There is a $35 setup fee. The installment payment plan outlines the eligible charges (current balance) and a payment schedule (three months for summer). Students will have the option to set up automatic payments or not.

Please see below for a recommended packing list. Not everything on this list is required, but we do recommend following this closely so you are best prepared to stay overnight during the residential portion of the course. We recommend packing for at least seven days.

Students will be staying in Ruddock Hall while on campus. Check-in/move-in will be on Sunday, July 12. Check-out/move-out will be on Saturday, July 18.

Clothing

Day-to-day, bring whatever you will be comfortable in. July weather will be hot, but the buildings are air conditioned, so bring clothes for both climates. One of the course sessions involves machinery, so we recommend bringing close toed shoes and clothes you are okay with getting dirty.

  • Dinner can be somewhat early, so if you want a snack in the evening, it's recommended you bring your own. The residence hall has vending machines, but the snack options are limited.
  • The rooms come with a microwave and mini fridge.
• Spending money
  • If you buy snacks/drinks from the vending machines, visit anywhere in town and want to buy something or eat somewhere, or buy IUP souvenirs from the Co-op Store.

Prohibited Items - Per IUP's Housing Office

No Weapons Including:

• Forearms/Replica Firearms - gun, rifles, and ammunition
• Airsoft, BB, and Paintball Guns - any device capable of casting a projectile
• Knives - any pocketknife with a blade over three inches long
• Other Weapons - martial arts weapons and archery equipment

Fire Safety:

• Candles and incense
• Cooking appliances
• Space heaters/extension cords
• Halogen lamps

Additional Prohibited Items:

• Alcohol/drug paraphernalia - marijuana and other illegal drugs, hookahs or other smoking devices
• Air conditioner
• Nails/tacks - anything that can damage the walls
• Any other items or appliances the university deems potentially dangerous

During the residential week (July 12–18), students will primarily be located in the following buildings:

• North Dining - dining hall for lunch (11:30 a.m.–1:00 p.m.) and dinner (4:30–6:00 p.m.)
• Robertshaw Building - morning portion of class with Dr. Adkins
• Ruddock Hall - residence hall where students will be staying overnight
• Jane Leonard Hall - afternoon portion of class with Dr. Sell

A Record Release Authorization is a form students complete that authorizes select personnel to access their records and communicate with IUP on their behalf. While SHP students are primarily minors, they are considered IUP students due to being enrolled in an IUP course, which means they are entitled to privacy protections by FERPA. Therefore, students are strongly encouraged to complete the Record Release Authorization so IUP personnel can communicate with parents/guardians if needed.
