A safety and health plan is only as good as the communication and training that must take place throughout the University to bring the plan into reality.

  • All University community members must be kept aware and up to date on all safety related policies, procedures and training.
  • Employees want to know how well they and their departments are doing, in terms of safety. Supervisors must communicate statistics to his/her employees at the monthly safety meetings. Discussions about accidents which took place the previous month should take place as well as discussion about "near misses."
  • Supervisors must conduct monthly safety meetings with employees. Meetings are a way of providing training, updating, and safety discussion, and pointing out possible habits.
  • All employees should be encouraged to bring to the University's attention any potential health and or safety hazard that may exist in the work place or on the University grounds during the daily work schedule.
