Cogeneration Plant

Areas requiring appropriate personal protective equipment for employees and visitors are as follows:
  • Areas within the S. W. Jack Cogeneration Facility require hard hats, hearing protection, eye protection, and proper footwear.
  • The high voltage switch yard on the east side of the S. W. Jack Facility requires the use of hard hat, eye protection, and proper footwear.
  • The areas immediately surrounding the S. W. Jack Facility when work is being performed, such as intake louvers, diesel fuel tanks, gas and water valves, and drainage pits between the coal plant and Cogen plant, requires hard hate, eye protection, and proper footwear.

Exceptions:

Areas within the S. W. Jack Cogeneration Plant which do not require full personal protective equipment are:

  • Cogen control room
  • Cogen lunch room
  • Maintenance manager's office
  • Men's and women's lavatories

Notes:

If work is being performed in any of the above expected areas, proper protective equipment must be worn.

Employees whose lockers are in the cogeneration plant may walk to and from the Cogen plant entrance directly to the lavatories without personal protective equipment while coming onto or leaving a work shift.

Visitors may walk from the plant entrance directly to the control room and vice versa without personal protective equipment when arriving and departing.

Natural Gas-Fired Plant

All areas of the coal-fired boiler plant and water treatment area require the use of hard hats, protective eyewear, and proper footwear.

Exceptions:

Areas within the coal-fired boiler plant which do not require full personal protective equipment are:

  • The operator's shanty
  • The director's office area
  • The shower room
  • The immediate water lab area (protective eyewear is required here)

Maintenance Shop

All areas of the maintenance shop require hard hats, protective eyewear, and proper footwear.

Exceptions:

An area within the maintenance shop which does not require hard hats and protective eyewear is the immediate lunch table area during periods of breaks and lunch while no work is being performed nearby.
