The courses offered through the IUP Community Music School give participants guided lessons through learning how to properly read and play music on piano, guitar, and bagpipes—all while having fun! Students must have access to the class-specified instrument daily.

Fall 2021 COVID-19 Update

All classes—piano, guitar, and bagpipes—WILL be offered for the fall 2021 semester! Although the COVID-19 situation is ever-changing, current guidelines will allow for the class to meet.

The following applies during the fall 2021 semester, following the university guidelines for returning to campus and the Music Department Guidelines.

Please understand that these guidelines can change at any time in response to new information from the CDC and Pennsylvania Department of Health. If there are changes, you will be notified by your instructor and the website will also be updated.

  • NEW as of 8:00 a.m. on August 17, 2021:  IUP will require face coverings/masks to be worn indoors in public spaces at all campuses and centers. This is required of all people, regardless of their COVID-19 vaccination status.
  • Masking is not required outdoors.
  • Social distancing is not required.
  • No proof of vaccination will be required of students, employees, or visitors.

For additional information from the IUP Community Music School, please see the IUPCMS home page; and for more information from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, please see their comprehensive Coronavirus Information page.

All classes take place in Cogswell Hall, IUP main campus. Click here for the map and directions.

Note: If you cannot attend the listed class time for the piano and guitar courses, email of your interest. There is always the possibility of rescheduling the class to a day/time where all interested students can attend. If the minimum number of students is not met, those interested will be offered private instruction.
