As a freshman, Marc Colón began his IUP career as a finance major and happily continues on that course, especially enjoying the technological atmosphere of Eberly College of Business and Information Technology; however, he has found so many opportunities since his arrival, he is now exploring new and unexpected career paths.
Currently a senior, the first-generation college student from Philadelphia has thrown himself into campus life, joining the Phi Gamma Nu business honors fraternity, doing an internship in the Small Business Development Center, joining the McNair Scholars program, and working closely with CALSA (Caring about Latino Student Achievement), as a short list of examples.
“You can say I've tried to expand my horizons,” he said. “I have considered using my finance degree and working toward investment banking or consulting. However, graduate school has become more and more of an option as I proceed in my academic career. Ultimately, I want to place myself in a position to impact others in a positive way.”
Last April, IUP held its first dinner in many years to bring together scholarship awardees and those who established endowed scholarship funds. Marc, who received the Nadav and Nancy Baum Scholarship for business majors, spoke on behalf of the scholarship recipients who attended.
“Receiving that scholarship has been another motivator to continue to work hard and do my part as a student at IUP,” he said.
