For Linus Morales, the spark ignited in a high school Spanish class—the moment when he realized he had a gift for foreign languages. Today, the Asian Studies student in the Cook Honors College has seen that spark turn into a blaze of discovery.
“Trying to interpret big ideas and big questions by faculty who foster your thinking—not by telling you what to think, but by guiding the way you think—has already affected how I look at the world,” Linus noted.
His view of the world also has been influenced by the Cook Honors College Achievement Fund, which has helped underwrite a trip to Boston for a Chinese speech competition, as well as a summer trip to China.
“We have a unique pool of students, all academically driven, and all who want to make a change in the world in some way,” he said. “It’s exciting to be around other students as extremely passionate about what they want to dedicate their lives to as you
are. With greater financial support, more students with these tools, but maybe without the financial means to make the most of them, can do so.”
