Biography

John Leveyis associate professor of Music at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he teaches composition and coordinates the program in music theory. Prior to his appointment at IUP, he served as assistant professor and director of Music at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.

Levey earned a PhD in composition and music theory (2009) as a Rackham Regents Fellow at the University of Michigan. His principal instructors were Andrew Mead and Bright Sheng. He also holds a MM in composition (2006) from the University of Michigan and BM in composition (2004) from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music.

Recent performances of Levey's compositions have taken place at the Biennial Conference of the North American Saxophone Alliance, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, and St. John's Church (Boston). He self-publishes his works under the Magic Line Edition imprint.

Levey is a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers; Society for Music Theory; College Music Society; and Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Fraternity.
