Building Hours

Cogswell Hall is open 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. during the fall and spring semesters. The building may have limited access during winter and summer break and on holidays.

Care of Facilities

In order to maintain Cogswell Hall, Gorell Recital Hall, and Fisher Auditorium, students should take steps to aid in the upkeep of these spaces.

  1. Flyers should only be posted on bulletin boards. Flyers should not be attached to walls, windows, doors, or other areas without prior approval from IUP music office staff or administration.
  2. Students should reset chairs, stands, and other furniture/equipment following events, rehearsal, and recitals.
  3. Damage to these facilities should be reported to the IUP music office so that appropriate repairs may be scheduled.

Audio/Recording Equipment

Department of Music-owned sound reinforcement and audio recording equipment may be loaned to students and faculty for approved functions. Contact Zach Collins (zcollins@iup.edu) at least one week prior to the event to discuss the availability of equipment.

Computer Lab

The College of Fine Arts (CFA) Computer Lab is located in Cogswell B03. All CFA students are welcome to use the lab during posted hours.

Copy Machine

A copy machine is available to students in Music Library. Students may use an I-Card to print materials.

Equipment/Instrument sign-out

Instruments and equipment may be provided by studio or ensemble faculty, but students may be responsible for purchasing other course materials or equipment (reeds, method books, drum sticks, etc.).

Keys

Students needing room keys will be required to have approval from a faculty member and to pay a $25 refundable deposit for each key issued. Graduate assistants are excluded.

Lockers

Lockers are available to students and may be signed out in the music office. Most lockers are located in the basement of Cogswell Hall. Studio-owned lockers may be signed out with the studio instructor. Students are responsible for purchasing their own lock.

Personal Property and Liability

The IUP Department of Music is not responsible for any personal items that are damaged, lost, or stolen in Cogswell Hall.

Piano Service

IUP is fortunate to be an All-Steinway School. It is the aim of the department to have all pianos in performance, rehearsal, studio, and practice room spaces in good working order. Students should report any pianos in need of service to resident piano technician, Dan Alberts: dalberts@iup.edu.

Teaching in Cogswell

Students who wish to teach lessons in Cogswell Hall must do so through the Community Music School and obtain the appropriate clearances. Violations of this policy can lead to serious liability issues for the student and university.
