Scholarship Opportunities for the IUP Community Music School

There are currently scholarships available for public and private school-age students to participate in the IUP Community Music School ensembles. Music teachers in Armstrong, Indiana, and Jefferson counties are offered the opportunity to nominate up to two of their students.

In the future, and dependent upon funding support and donations, we hope to offer scholarships for private lessons. For the 2021-22 academic year, we can offer them for the ensembles.

Fall 2021 COVID-19 Update

Our scholarships are currently offered only for ensemble participation, and will be available for the ensembles that will begin meeting. Check out the page for each to see if it will be starting up this fall.

The following applies during the fall 2021 semester, following the university guidelines for returning to campus and the Music Department Guidelines.

Please understand that these guidelines can change at any time in response to new information from the CDC and Pennsylvania Department of Health. If there are changes, you will be notified by your director and the website will also be updated.

  • NEW as of 8:00 a.m. on August 17, 2021:  IUP will require face coverings/masks to be worn indoors in public spaces at all campuses and centers. This is required of all people, regardless of their COVID-19 vaccination status.
  • Masking is not required outdoors.
  • Social distancing is not required.
  • No proof of vaccination will be required of students, employees, or visitors.
  • During a rehearsal, it is recommended that brass players use a puppy pee pad when emptying their instrument of condensation (available very inexpensively at Ollie’s).

For additional information from the IUP Community Music School, please see the IUPCMS home page; and for more information from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, please see the comprehensive Coronavirus Information page.

Guidelines

  • The names of student nominees are accepted only when submitted through email by the students music teacher to the director of the IUPCMS, Jeff Wacker, at jwacker@iup.edu. If a parent or guardian would like their child considered for a scholarship, they must contact their music teacher.

Note: A principal may submit a student for a scholarship as long as the email submission is CC'd to the school's music teacher, and the teacher concurs with the submission.

  • Each scholarship student must attend all performances and commit to the number of rehearsals indicated under each ensemble.

  • All students must register in the IUP Community Music School in order to receive the scholarship and participate. Registration is accomplished by clicking on the crimson Register Now bar found on most pages of the IUPCMS website.
