Indiana Concert Band

This ensemble provides a rich and engaging experience for all participants, whether in high school, college, or members of the community. Parts are rotated throughout the semester to give all players a variety of opportunities for section and solo playing.

Fall 2021 COVID-19 Update

The Indiana Concert Band WILL be offered for the fall 2021 semester! Although the COVID-19 situation is ever-changing, current guidelines will allow for the ensemble to meet.

The following applies during the fall 2021 semester, following the university guidelines for returning to campus and the Music Department Guidelines.

Please understand that these guidelines can change at any time in response to new information from the CDC and Pennsylvania Department of Health. If there are changes, you will be notified by your director and the website will also be updated.

  • NEW as of 8:00 a.m. on August 17, 2021:  IUP will require face coverings/masks to be worn indoors in public spaces at all campuses and centers. This is required of all people, regardless of their COVID-19 vaccination status.
  • Masking is not required outdoors.
  • Social distancing is not required.
  • No proof of vaccination will be required of students, employees or visitors.
  • During a rehearsal, it is recommended that brass players use a puppy pee pad when emptying their instrument of condensation (available very inexpensively at Ollie’s).

For additional information from the IUP Community Music School, please see the IUPCMS home page, and for more information from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, please see their comprehensive Coronavirus Information page.

All college-level players, community members, and high school players must audition for the fall semester.

For the spring semester, only college-level players and those community and high school members new to the ensemble need to audition. Community members and high school players who played in the fall semester do not need to re-audition. Simply email Jeff Wacker ( and Jason Worzbyt ( to let them know you plan to continue playing in the ensemble.

The audition for the Indiana Concert Band should consist of approximately three to four minutes of music. Prospective ensemble members can select any music of their choosing that best demonstrates their performing ability on their chosen instrument. Whether an etude, solo, or excerpts from band or orchestral literature, suggested is something lyrical demonstrating tone, phrasing, and musicianship, and something demonstrating technique. Scales may also be requested.

Audition days, times, and locations, are listed under each semester. To schedule an audition, you MUST email Jason Worzbyt at If you cannot audition at any of the listed times, or for more information, e-mail Dr. Worzbyt and he will work with you in finding an audition day/time that fits your schedule.
