Guitar Classes

  • Coronavirus Update: NEW as of May 20, 2020

    Following the policy statement in early April by President Michael Driscoll in regard to the COVID-19 threat, and the announcement that all summer courses for the university will be online with no face-to-face instruction, the IUP Community Music School also canceled all face-to-face instruction through the end of the summer 2020 semester.

    Guitar classes do not normally meet during the summer, but registration for online private lessons is OPEN and will be ongoing and rolling through Friday, July 10.

    Adult Guitar I 

    Description:

    In this 14-week course, students learn to read music and learn the essentials of playing a guitar. No experience is necessary. Students are required to have daily access to a guitar. If the minimum number of students is not met, those interested will be offered private instruction.

    Level:

    Beginner, ages 14+ (Younger than 14? Private lessons are a great option!)

    Class Size Limit:

    8–10

    Cost:

    • Tuition: $140 per semester
    • Registration Fee: $25 per semester
    • Required Materials: See below

    Materials:

    Hal Leonard Guitar Method Book 1; must have own guitar. Please bring both to the first class meeting.

    Fall Semester, 2019 / Day, Time, Room:

    • Tuesdays, 7:00–7:50 p.m., Room 303 (third floor classroom), September 3–December 10 (14 classes)
    • Note: No class on Tuesday, November 26, during Thanksgiving break

    Spring Semester, 2020 / Day, Time, Room:

    • Tuesdays, 7:00–7:50 p.m., Room 303 (third floor classroom), January 28–May 5 (14 classes)
    • Note: Instructor will announce whether there will be class on March 10 during the IUP Spring Break.

    In this 14-week course, students extend their music reading and playing skills. Student must have taken Adult Guitar I or have approval from the instructor, and are required to have daily access to a guitar. If the minimum number of students is not met, those interested will be offered private instruction.
