Students are encouraged to start undergraduate research soon into their freshmen and sophomore years to become more competitive when applying for external research experiences and internships.

Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU)

The National Science foundation funds the Research Experience for Undergraduates programs found around the world. You can find a listing of all funded sites on their website or search by scientific area. You should plan to apply early, as some of these sites have deadlines as early as the September before.

Internships and Full-Time Job Opportunities

The department regularly informs and mentors students into internships and full-time positions from the local area or in the US. Companies wishing to hire IUP seniors or recent graduates should contact the department chairperson, Anne Kondo (akondo@iup.edu).

Guaranteed Graduate School Admissions

The department has agreements with multiple institutions offering PhD and MS degree programs. These institutions recognize the quality classroom, laboratory, and research experiences that IUP offers our students, providing direct placement into regional, national, and international doctoral or masters programs. Students accepted under the guaranteed admissions are offered full tuition and monetary stipend.
