Call to Establish RP Teaching Circles

  • Dear colleagues,

The Reflective Practice Project (RP) at IUP invites you to join one (or more) Teaching Circles for the 2017–18 academic year. They offer a wonderful opportunity to work with colleagues from your own department or across disciplines to enhance and improve your teaching.

If you would like to create a Teaching Circle, or if your Teaching Circle existed last year and would like to continue this year, please have the facilitator(s) contact Heide Witthöft (, co-director for Cross-disciplinary and Department Teaching Circles, to provide the name of the Teaching Circle and the facilitator information.

A list of registered Teaching Circles will be made available on the Center for Teaching Excellence website.

Please note the procedure to register your Teaching Circle this year:

    1. As soon as new Teaching Circles have been formed or already existing Teaching Circles have decided to continue during the 2017-2018 academic year, the facilitator(s) should send their names via e-mail to Heide Witthöft, Reflective Practice Co-Director for Department and Cross-Disciplinary Teaching Circles, at
    2. The facilitator(s) will then be sent an e-mail message with a link to a short Qualtrics form to register the Teaching Circle.
    3. Once the facilitators have registered their Teaching Circle, they will be sent a second Qualtrics link which they will forward to their Teaching Circle members. As soon as they complete that second Qualtrics form, they are officially registered as members of the Teaching Circle.
    4. Facilitators will not automatically be notified of who registered for their Teaching Circle. Please contact Heide Witthöft for that information:

    Please note:

    • New members can be added to Teaching Circles throughout the year, but facilitators will need to remember to send them the Qualtrics form to fill out, so they can officially register as participants.
    • Colleagues who participate in more than one Teaching Circle need to fill out a separate Qualtrics form for each to establish their membership.

This new procedure will ensure that we have an accurate database of who the facilitators and members of the various Teaching Circles are. It will also provide us with accurate department and contact information as well as the correct spelling of everybody’s name. This information will help expedite the processing of the certificates recognizing Active and Active Plus status in the Reflective Practice Project of the Center of Teaching Excellence at the end of the academic year.

Please also remember that your Teaching Circle can apply for a CTE Mini-Grant for up to $500.

Teaching Circles can be established at any time during the academic year, but the deadline for applying for a Mini-Grant is October 6, 2017.
