Every Thursday, you can find the Crimson Scholars Circle students in Elkin Hall’s Great Room, connecting with their peers and mentors, learning about new information, and working together to creatively problem solve.
In its first year, the CSC was developed to provide additional support and resources to Black and Brown IUP students. Besides attending an early immersion week experience at the start of the semester, CSC students are also required to participate in various group meetings and events throughout the semester to continue their eligibility for their scholarships.
On Thursday, October 14, CSC students met during their weekly meeting and were divided into small groups. These groups were tasked with brainstorming the development of an organization that could meet the needs of either specific student populations or the entire IUP student body. After much discussion in their groups, a representative from each group presented thoughtful and inspiring ideas. The group with the best idea won gift cards to the Co-Op Store.
The Division for Student Affairs looks forward to its continued work with the CSC students and wants to thank its campus partners, student mentors, and the CSC students who participated in Thursday’s meeting. Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs Malaika Turner stated, “We are very excited about how the CSC program is coming together. It is wonderful to see our students work together and grow every week that they are a part of the IUP campus community.”
