Diversity Research Presentation Series

In this series, presenters will share research from their dissertations, leading to meaningful discussions about diversity, equity, and inclusion. Other presentations in the series are as follows:

  • “Culturally Responsive Mentorship: Black Graduate Student and Faculty Perceptions, A Case Study Approach”
    Tuesday, July 6, 3:00-4:00 p.m., by Veta Talton, doctoral candidate in IUP’s DEd in Administration and Leadership Studies program

  • “The Role of Diversity and Inclusion in the Field of Safety Sciences”
    Wednesday, August 4, 6:00-7:00 p.m. This panel discussion features Wanda Minnick, associate professor and MS in Safety Sciences program coordinator, IUP Department of Safety Sciences; Annah Hill, associate professor and assistant chair, IUP Department of Communication Disorders, Special Education, and Disability Services; and Laura Helmrich-Rhodes and Luz Marin, associate professors, IUP Department of Safety Sciences.

The LGBTQ community has faced difficulties over the years in receiving healthcare access and overcoming negative attitudes from health care provider. These and other challenges to the LGBTQ community has caused even more stress amid the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The result is that the overall impact on the LGBTQ community at the time of COVID-19 needs to be considered a public health emergency.

This lecture will discuss the unique impacts of COVID on the LGBTQ community and solutions to improve future pandemic planning.

Jennifer Demchak has an MS in Safety Sciences at IUP, and is a professor at Mansfield University.
