Dr. Jonathan C. Lewis is an assistant professor in the Department of Geoscience at IUP. He has been with IUP since 2004.Before coming to IUP, he worked at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, as an adjunct assistant professor and senior postdoctoral researcher; the University of California, Davis, as a postdoctoral fellow and lecturer; and the University of Connecticut as a research and teaching assistant.Hehas also heldpositions as an environmental consultant, a project geologist, and ahydro geologist. Dr. Lewis acted as the structural geologist on the 2007 Integrated Ocean Drilling Program Expedition 315. He has secured nearly $500,000 in grants to further research in the geosciences field. Dr. Lewis recently received a National Science Foundationgrant to study reactivation of continental margin fraction zones employing numerical modeling of modern and ancientorogens.

Dr. Lewis has authored or coauthoredthirteen professional publications and research reports and giventwenty-one invited talks and lectures at variousuniversities and other venues. In addition, he has helped createnine focus meetings and workshops. He further shows his dedication to thegeosciences field through his memberships in the American Geophysical Union and the Geological Society of America.

He shows his commitment to IUP through his academic service, including serving on the IUP Judicial Review Board andIUP Safe Zone, and serving as cochair on the IUP Kopchick College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics Technology Committee. He also serves as the outside speaker coordinator and the faculty coadvisor for the student Geosciences Club, the Sigma Gamma Epsilon liaison, and the Experiential Education coordinator for the Geoscience Department.
