DEd in Curriculum and Instruction: Application Requirements

  • To apply to the Doctor of Education in Curriculum and Instruction program at IUP, please submit all of the materials listed below.

    Those seeking the financial support of a graduate assistantship are advised to complete this process early, by March 15.

    The next cohort program will be starting at main campus in the Fall semester of 2014 and at the Monroeville campus and Harrisburg in the Fall semester of 2013.

    Applicants must have a minimum 2.6 GPA for undergraduate or a 3.5 GPA for graduate degrees.

    1. Submit the following items for consideration:
      • Apply online or request a hardcopy by e-mailing
      • $50 nonrefundable application fee
      • Two academic or professional letters of recommendation written by those qualified to assess the applicant’s potential for doctoral study
      • Signed and dated written academic goal statement from the candidate that explains reasons for pursuing the doctorate and professional plans
      • Official, sealed transcripts of colleges and universities attended
      • International students without a master’s degree from the United States must submit TOEFL scores

    Departmental Program Requirements

    1. A recorded, five-minute, research-based presentation on a curriculum and instruction topic; a reference list in APA style of the works cited. Submit it directly to the program coordinators, Dr. Mary Jalongo for Indiana and Monroeville and Dr. Kelli Jo Kerry-Moran for Harrisburg; 305 Davis Hall, 570 S. 11th Street, IUP, Indiana, PA 15705, or post it online.
    2. Complete a 1.5-hour online writing task that requires the applicant to: (1) read a professional journal article, (2) analyze it, (3) critique it, and (4) state a position on the issue. This task is arranged by e-mailing the program coordinators, Dr. Mary Jalongo ( for Indiana and Monroeville and Dr. Kelli Jo Kerry-Moran ( for Harrisburg .  This occurs during a 1.5-hour time period via e-mail.
