Ashley Dawn Murphy

Ashley MurphyAshley Dawn Murphy is a junior religious studies and criminology double major. For the past year she has been president of the Committee for the Study of Culture and Religion. As president, she is spreading awareness and playing a vital role in its latest achievements.

Ashley was nominated and became the second recipient of our Student of the Month Award for February 2016. This honor was granted due to her hard work and leadership within the department.

Last semester Ashley participated in the Tibetan monks visit: planning, designing prayer flags, and cooking for the potluck dinner. She also designed and constructed the banner for the Religious Studies Club's Day of the Dead altar, with the help of other students. The display later won first place. As CSCR president, she is helping to organize a film series for the fall 2016 semester. This film festival will allow students to share their academic interests. She hopes this series will educate the IUP community about culture.

Upon receiving this award, Ashley was very grateful to her admired religious studies professors. She believes she owes all of her success to her wonderful friends and family. In the future she will surely continue to be a leader among her majors and student organizations.
