Music Series Events 2017–18

  • The Department of Music presents dozens of events each year. Of special note are those presented as part of our Sound Choices series and Music Theater.

    Performed by a variety of ensembles, including Music Theater and various inter-departmental collaborations, the concerts are produced by our faculty and highlight performances by our students, faculty, alumni, and special guests.

    Arias from well-known operas by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart come alive on the Gorell stage as members of the IUP faculty perform these classic hits.

  • Leaves of Grass

    Friday, November 10, 2017, 8:00 p.m.; Gorell Recital Hall, Second Floor Sutton Hall

    Leaves of Grass, the iconic collection of poems by the renowned American poet Walt Whitman, is given a new voice in this beautiful jazz setting composed by Fred Hersch. Join jazz vocalist Laura Ferguson and the IUP Chamber Jazz Ensemble as they continue this celebration of American music and poetry.

  • Sing in the Holiday!

    Friday, December 1, 2017; 7:30 p.m.; Fisher Auditorium, IUP Performing Arts Center

    Hear the IUP and Indiana area school choirs celebrate the season with joyful tunes new and old. Join in and sing along with us on childhood favorites as well as the season’s most beloved carols. This will be something special for the entire family.

  • Gypsy Songs

    Tuesday, January 30, 2018; 8:00 p.m.; Gorell Recital Hall, Second Floor Sutton Hall

    The IUP voice, choral, and piano faculty join forces for an evening of art songs, arias, and piano solos, including Brahms’ Zigeunerlieder (Gypsy Songs).

  • The Road to Yale: IUP Wind Ensemble

    Saturday, March 3, 2018, 7:30 p.m.; Fisher Auditorium, IUP Performing Arts Center

    This concert celebrates wind band music of the past and present. A list of composers will include Robert Litton, Vincent Persichetti, Charles Ives, Carter Pann, and Martin Ellerby. The concert will be repeated at Yale University following a prestigious invitation for IUP to perform at the 2018 College Band Directors National Association conference.
