Scholarship Opportunities for the IUP Community Music School

  • There are currently scholarships available for public school-age students to participate in the three IUP Community Music School ensembles. Music teachers in Armstrong, Indiana, and Jefferson counties are offered the opportunity to nominate up to three or four of their students, depending upon the ensemble.

In the future, and dependent upon funding support and donations, we hope to offer scholarships for private lessons. For the 2018–19 academic year, we can offer them for the ensembles.

    Guidelines

    • The names of student nominees are accepted only when submitted through e-mail by the students’ music teacher to the director of the IUPCMS, Jeff Wacker, at jwacker@iup.edu. If a parent or guardian would like their child considered for a scholarship, they must contact their music teacher.
Note: A principal may submit a student for a scholarship as long as the e-mail submission is CC’d to the school’s music teacher, and the teacher concurs with the submission.
    • Nominees must be submitted for each semester, and prior to the second rehearsal of that semester.  The teacher has the option of submitting the same students, all new students, or both previous and new students.
    • Each scholarship student must attend all performances and commit to the number of rehearsals indicated under each ensemble.
    • All students must register in the IUP Community Music School in order to receive the scholarship and participate. Registration is accomplished by clicking on a crimson Register Now bar found on most pages of the IUPCMS website.
