The Ken and Lois Widdowson Scholarship is awarded to deserving Mathematics majors from Indiana Area High School.
The Ken and Lois Widdowson
Scholarship was established by Ken Widdowson in memory of his wife, Lois, who passed away in 2004. Lois was a graduate of Indiana High School and a 1943 graduate of Indiana Normal School (as IUP was then known),
where she majored in mathematics. Lois
was a homemaker and a teacher, having taught at Friedens High School in
Somerset County.
Eligible candidates must
meet the following criteria for scholarship consideration:
- Must be enrolled as a full-time student at Indiana University of
Pennsylvania;
- Must be a
graduate of Indiana Area High School;
- If, in any given year, there are no eligible
candidates who meet this initial criteria, scholarship consideration may be
given to students who have graduated from any high school within Indiana
County;
- Must be a Mathematics
major;
- Must be in good
academic standing with the university;
- Preference will
be given to those who demonstrate financial need.
In order to apply, the
candidate must complete an application form that includes information on
extracurricular activities and the reason for choosing a career in mathematics. The application form may be obtained through
the Mathematics and Computer Sciences Department.
