IUP’s Center for Family Business presented McAneny Brothers with its 2018 Distinguished Family Business Award in April. Based in Ebensburg, McAneny Brothers is a full-service distributor for convenience and grocery stores.
Open since August of last year, IUP’s North Dining facility won the 2018 Best of Education design award from the International Interior Design Association of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware. The dining hall was built on the former site of Keith Hall.
Hilton Corporation honored Indiana’s Hilton Garden Inn, adjacent to the Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex, with the 2017 Hotel Success Award. Of the more than 600 hotels eligible for the award, the Hilton on the IUP campus ranked in the top 20 in total quality.
Last spring, Aaron Seidel, a senior in the Geoscience Department, became IUP’s eighth student to win the Goldwater Scholarship. Named for late US Senator Barry Goldwater,
the scholarship encourages the pursuit of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering careers. A Cleveland native, he is a student in IUP’s Cook Honors College.
Recipients of the 2018 Jane Leonard Award, which recognizes contributions to the advancement of women at IUP, are Ruth Riesenman ’64, retired executive assistant to the president of IUP, and Melissa Swauger ’97, IUP associate professor of sociology. A
member of the Foundation for IUP board of directors, Riesenman retired from the university in 2005 after 26 years of service. Swauger joined the faculty in 2009.
Hall of Distinction
IUP’s Eberly College of Business and Information Technology inducted three alumni into its Hall of Distinction during the 40th annual Business Day in April:

- David Bluemling ’85, tax partner with BKD CPAs & Advisors, LLP
- Steve Agnoli ’86, chief information officer at Reed Smith
