Always a patrons’ favorite, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra continues its longtime partnership with the Lively Arts to bring its renowned orchestration to the stage of Fisher Auditorium.

Under the baton of Manfred Honeck, the PSO is slated to perform portions of Eroica, one of the Ludwig Beethoven’s most celebrated works. First publicly performed April 7, 1805, in Vienna, this large-scale composition marked the beginning of Beethoven’s creative middle-period. The work was composed mainly in 1803–04 and is grounded in the classical symphonic tradition while stretching boundaries of form, length, harmony, and perceived emotional content.

Maestro Honeck has conducted the PSO since before his 2008–09 appointment as the organization’s ninth music director. He had first guest conducted the symphony in May 2006, and returned for another appearance later that year in November. Born in Austria, Honeck studied music at the Academy of Music in Vienna and performed in various capacities with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra—as violinist, violist, and guest conductor. In addition to his directorship of the Pittsburgh Symphony, Honeck has served as music director of the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and Staatsoper Stuttgart and as guest conductor of the Czech Philharmonic.

Established in 1895, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra has become an international sensation over the course of its existence. Well into its second century, PSO has remained immediately relevant to those interested in classical music. Teamed with Honeck, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra has received wonderfully positive reviews and was nominated for Best Orchestra Recording Grammy Award in 2015.
