Courses in Journalism and Public Relations

The Journalism and Public Relations Department stresses the importance of freedom and flexibility in course requirements.

As a Journalism and Public Relations major, you are only required to take five JRNL prefix courses. The rest of the major requirements can be filled with courses of your choice offered by the department.

The curriculum is flexible enough to allow students to pick up a second major or a minor (or two) and still graduate within four years. Our students use this advantage to differentiate themselves in the workforce.

Although internships are not required in the major, they are highly recommended. Internships are an excellent source for gaining hands-on experience in the journalism field, and our faculty and alumni have built a strong network of opportunities.
