The ESS (Employee Self-Service) portal allows employees and student employees to view and update their time entries. Student employees use ESS to submit their hours to payroll.
Among the things you can view/update:
What is the suggested browser for using ESS?
The SAP Enterprise portal (i.e., ESS/MSS/eTime) is designed for support usage across all current Internet browsers, Including Microsoft Edge,Firefox, Chrome, and Internet Explorer 11. There should be no notable differences in the appearance of the “Tabs” at the top of the portal.
Internet Explorer 11 or Google Chrome are the recommended browsers for the most reliable experience with the ESS and MSS application. A complete announcement from the Pennsylvania State System can be read on the dashboard your next login to the Employee Self-Service.
How do I change my password?
Employees and students have the ability to set their own PASSHE Active Directory passwords. This password is used to access the Employee Self-Service system.
There are two ways in which you can reset your PASSHE/ESS password. The first is to use MyIUP. The second way requires that you sign up for the PASSHE account self-service.
The MyIUP steps follow, then the PASSHE steps will be after that.
To utilize the PASSHE Self-Service method, you do need to know your PASSHE/ESS password as you will need to log into the Self-Service module one time with your PASSHE/ESS password to set this method.
To set this up:
You will now be able to use the PaSSHE/ESS’s Account Reset Tool if you have forgotten your password.
What do I do if I forget my password?
You have two options:
Option A: (Recommended) Use MyIUP and follow the steps in the How do I change my password entry.
Option B: If you have configured your account to use the ESS Self-Service portal, you may use the Account Self-Service Portal to reset your password (you must know your State System Pin for this option. See How do I change my password entry for the steps to set this PIN.):
If you have not registered at the self-service portal, you must contact the IT Support Center at 724-357-4000.
I have reset my ESS password in MyIUP and I tried to log in, but I’m still getting the error “User authentication failed.”
This can happen if you are saving passwords used on websites. This is not a recommended practice for security reasons. You will need to delete your saved passwords in your browser. Below are the steps to do this in Internet Explorer and Firefox:
In Internet Explorer, from the Tools menu, choose Internet Options. On the General tab under Browsing history , click Delete . Select Passwords on the Delete Browsing History Dialog box, then click Delete .
In Firefox, from the Tools menu, choose Clear Recent History. Select Everything under Time range to clear. Click Clear Now.
After clearing the saved passwords, reset your ESS password via MyIUP and try again. If you are still unable to login, it would be best to contact the IT Support Center at 724-357-4000.
If my personal information in ESS is incorrect, whom do I contact?
For errors in leave and master data (address, date of birth, etc.), please contact Payroll Services at 724-357-2510.
For errors in benefits information, please contact the Office of Human Resources at 724-357-2431.
Will I still be able to access ESS after I leave employment at IUP?
When your employment at IUP ends, you will no longer be able to access ESS. Your final pay statement will be mailed to you through the US Mail to your home address.
Can I update my data online?
Yes, you may update emergency contact information, primary phone number, withholding (W-4) information, and race/ethnicity codes. Additional update features will be added in the future.
I get a pop-up blocker message when I try to log off from ESS. What do I do?
You want to temporarily allow pop-ups, then click log off again, then click Yes to confirm.
Can I access ESS from an Apple computer?
Yes, some portal functionality has been proven in the Mac OS X environment if you use the Mozilla Firefox browser. However, certain parts may function in an unfamiliar way or not function at all.
If I’m having issues, who do I call?
You can log a ticket via ihelp, or call the IT Support Center at 724-357-4000.
You may also contact the Office of Human Resources at 724-357-2431.
