Tuition Waiver Eligibility and Benefit Details: SPFPA

  • Active SPFPA Employees  

    Eligibility Criteria:

    The active SPFPA employee must be permanent/full-time and in an active pay status. Tuition waiver applications can be submitted for the first semester/session following completion of the employee’s probationary period.

    Tuition Waiver Benefit:

    Active SPFPA Employee

    • 100 percent waiver of tuition for six undergraduate credits per semester/session up to 128 credits. 
    • Waiver of Activity, Health, Technology, and Transportation fees
    • IUP only—no tuition waiver benefit at other Pennsylvania State System schools
    • No tuition waiver benefits for graduate credits

    Spouse of Active SPFPA Employee

    • 100 percent waiver of tuition until spouse receives first undergraduate degree.   
    • Waiver of Activity, Technology, and Transportation fees
    • IUP only—no tuition waiver benefit at other State System schools
    • No tuition waiver benefit for graduate credits

    Child of Active SPFPA Employee

    • 100 percent waiver of tuition up to the child’s first undergraduate degree or age 25, whichever occurs first
    • Waiver of Technology Fee
    • IUP only—no tuition waiver benefit at other State System schools
    • No tuition waiver benefit for graduate credits

    Retired SPFPA Employees

    Eligibility Criteria:

    The SPFPA retiree must be at or above superannuation age (age 60) with at least 15 years of service exclusively with the State System of Higher Education at the time of tuition waiver application.

    Tuition Waiver Benefit:

    Retired SPFPA Employee > no tuition waiver benefit

    Spouse of Retired SPFPA employee > no tuition waiver benefit

    Child of Retired SPFPA Employee

    • 100 percent waiver of tuition up to the child’s first undergraduate degree or age 25, whichever occurs first
    • Waiver of Technology Fee
    • IUP only—no tuition waiver benefit at other State System schools
    • No tuition waiver benefit for graduate credits

    Permanently Disabled or Deceased SPFPA Employees

    Eligibility Criteria:

    The permanently disabled SPFPA employee must have at least 15 years of service with the State System of Higher Education and became permanently disabled while an active employee.

    The deceased SPFPA employee must have had at least 15 years of service with the State System of Higher Education and became deceased while an active employee.

    Tuition Waiver Benefit:

    Permanently Disabled or Deceased SPFPA Employee > no tuition waiver benefit

    Spouse of Permanently Disabled or Deceased SPFPA Employee > no tuition waiver benefit

    Child of Permanently Disabled or Deceased SPFPA Employee

    • 100 percent waiver of tuition up to the child’s first undergraduate degree or age 25, whichever occurs first
    • Waiver of Technology Fee
    • IUP only—no tuition waiver benefit at other State System schools
    • No tuition benefit for graduate credits
