The Administration and Leadership Studies Research and Training Center was established in 2005 as part of the Sociology Department within IUP's College of Humanities and Social Sciences to enhance learning for Administration and Leadership Studies doctoral students.

The Administration and Leadership Studies Research Training Center (ALS-RTC) has established relationships with nonprofit state and federal government agencies in such areas as transportation, labor, health, welfare, business and industry, higher education, and local and state government. These relationships provide opportunities for practical application through real-world projects.

The Research and Training Center is a great source of support offering a variety of opportunities that complement my academic and professional interests.

The ALS-RTC hosts ongoing, multi-year projects which provide smaller projects for student engagement. In addition, the center seeks out new projects by matching research interests among current students with funding opportunities and research needs identified through our broad network.

Mission

The ALS-RTC is an applied, interdisciplinary center that engages Administration and Leadership Studies (ALS) doctoral students in order to provide sponsored research, program evaluation, policy analysis, technology transfer, and training for public and nonprofit sector organizations.

Goals

  • Enrich the teaching and educational experience of students and faculty by providing real-world research, training, and evaluation opportunities for doctoral students and faculty in the Administration and Leadership Studies Program.

  • Transfer knowledge and skills developed through the ALS Program to public and nonprofit sector organizations in order to improve organizational performance.

  • Leverage the expertise available through IUP faculty and ALS graduate students, along with university knowledge-sharing resources, in the provision of sponsored initiatives.

  • Bring regional and national recognition to Indiana University of Pennsylvania and the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education through active involvement in public and nonprofit sector activities, quality research, training and evaluation services, critical analysis, creative ideas, and innovative solutions.

  • Promote interdisciplinary studies on specific themes and develop contacts among researchers across geographical areas to foster an exchange of information and to encourage the development of research and training activities in the areas of leadership, organizational and natural environments, economics, health, sociology, social policy, and technological advancement and diffusion.
