Military Science Instructor

SFC Eric Callahan

SFC Eric Callahan joined the United States Army on April 23, 2003, from Cheyenne, Wyoming, and attended One Station Unit Training at Fort Benning, Georgia, as an 11B Infantryman; he then attended Javelin Course and obtained a C2 identifier. His first assignment was Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, at Camp Greaves, South Korea, where he served as a rifleman and wheeled vehicle driver until July 2004. 

SFC Callahan deployed from South Korea to Iraq in July 2004 with the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom until August 2005 in Ramadi. Next, he served as a team leader and squad leader assigned to Charlie Company, 2nd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment at Fort Carson, Colorado. He deployed to Iraq from October 2006 to December 2007 with the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, and served in Baghdad. Upon his return, SFC Callahan was assigned as the Rear Detachment NCOIC for Charlie Company, 2nd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment.

SFC Callahan was then assigned as a weapons squad leader in Charlie Company, 2nd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, and deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom from March 2012 to November 2012 with the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division in Kunar Province. Upon his return, he attended Drill Sergeant School at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. SFC Callahan served as a drill sergeant assigned to Charlie Company, 2nd Brigade, 19th Infantry Regiment from August 2013 to August 2015 on Sand Hill at Fort Benning. He was then assigned to Charlie Company, 2nd Battalion, 11th Infantry Regiment, Infantry Basic Officer Leader Course until January 2019. He then served as a platoon sergeant while assigned to Cobra King Company, 1st Battalion, 37th Armored Regiment at Fort Bliss, Texas, from March 2019 to May 2021. Following his time as a platoon sergeant, SFC Callahan served as the 2nd Brigade Combat Team S-3 NCOIC. SFC Callahan was then reassigned as a military science instructor at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

SFC Callahan's military education includes Warrior Leader Course, Advance Leader Course, Maneuver Senior Leader Course, Army Basic Instructor Course, Small Group Instructor Course, Advance Situational Awareness Leader Course, Drill Sergeant School, Javelin Course, Equal Opportunity Leader Course, and Master Resiliency Trainer.

His awards and decorations include Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (6 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (6 OLC), Army Good Conduct Medal (6th Award), National Defense Service Medal, Afghan Campaign Medal (1 CSS); Iraq Campaign Medal (3 CSS); Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon (Numeral 3), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (Numeral 4), Meritorious Unit Citation, Combat Infantry Badge, Expert Infantry Badge, and the Drill Sergeant Badge.

SFC Callahan has one daughter, Audrey (age 11).
