  • The mission of the Research Institute is to advance the research agenda and educational objectives of Indiana University of Pennsylvania by encouraging, promoting, conducting, administering, and supporting research in the natural sciences, mathematics, humanities, social sciences, education, health and human services, business, information technology, and other academic disciplines.

    Grant and Contract Specialist Position

    The IUP Research Institute is a nonprofit organization affiliated with Indiana University of Pennsylvania. This position reports to the executive director and is responsible for cultivating, developing, and administering all sponsored projects through IUP and the IUP Research Institute. Exceptional customer service is essential for successful interaction with IUP administration, funding agencies, and researchers. Full-time, 40 hours/week, Monday–Friday. Salary dependent on experience. Benefits include paid vacation, sick and holiday time, medical insurance, and 401(k).


    • Assist IUP personnel with researching and identifying potential federal, state, and private external funding opportunities
    • Provide technical assistance and support to IUP faculty and staff with the review and submission of grant proposals
    • Develop and refine budgets for sponsored projects, including personnel costs, participant support costs, supplies, travel, and other direct costs, including post-award budget modification
    • Ensure projects operate in compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and agency requirements, including OMB Uniform Guidance
    • Monitor ongoing program activity and expenditures to ensure deliverables and/or reporting requirements are met on time and according to agency requirements

    Minimum Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree, master’s degree preferred
    • Moderate to expert knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Publisher) and Adobe
    • One to three years’ experience in grant/contract administration, sponsored projects, or related field

    Physical Requirements

    • Communicate effectively (orally and written) with a variety of individuals
    • Sit, stand, and move around office and campus
    • Lift up to 30 lbs.
    • Manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as personal computer, printer, copier, fax, calculator, telephone, and other equipment as necessary

    Candidate must possess excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, excellent communication skills—both oral and written—and perform well in the interviews, ability to work independently as well as with others, and be self-motivated.
