The mission of the Research Institute is to advance the research agenda and educational objectives of Indiana University of Pennsylvania by encouraging, promoting, conducting, administering, and supporting research in the natural sciences, mathematics, humanities, social sciences, education, health and human services, business, information technology, and other academic disciplines.

Available Positions

Position:  Administrative Assistant

Location:  Indiana, PA.

The IUP Research Institute is a non-profit organization affiliated with Indiana University of Pennsylvania. This position reports to the Executive Director and serves as administrative support for the Executive Director and other staff members of the IUP Research Institute. Exceptional customer service is essential to successful interaction with IUP administration, funding agencies, and researchers. Part time, 25 hours/week, Monday – Friday. Salary dependent on experience; no benefits.


  • Performs general office support including typing, filing, answering the telephone, taking messages, greeting visitors, opening and sorting mail, and taking minutes.
  • Coordinates office supply purchases with all personnel and works to ensure cost effective strategies are followed.
  • Deliver correspondence to various buildings on the IUP campus.
  • Coordinates Research Institute management and staff schedules, meetings, conference calls, etc.
  • Organizes Research Institute activities (board meetings, Researchers’ Reception, etc.)
  • Provides clerical support for the Executive Director.

Minimum Required Qualifications

Moderate to expert knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, Word)

Excellent written and oral communication skills

High School Diploma or Equivalent, Associate Degree in Office Administration preferred.

1-3 years as an administrative assistant or related experience

Experience with nonprofit organizations

Higher education experience preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Communicate effectively (orally and written) with a variety of individuals
  • Sit, stand, and move around office and campus
  • Lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as, copier, fax, calculator, telephone, and other equipment as necessary

Candidate must possess excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, excellent communication skills (both oral and written), perform well in the interviews, have the ability to work independently as well as with others, and be self-motivated.
