This presentation will explain the destructive effects of addiction on the family unit and provide information on avenues of support for families affected by substance use disorders. Information to promote family recovery as well as provide strategies families can use to improve outcomes for their affected family member will be discussed.

Objectives

  1. Describe the indicators of early onset of addiction and the impact of substance use disorders on the family.
  2. Define Family Recovery and identify important strategies for promoting it in families.
  3. Formulate ways that Community Reinforcement and Family Training (CRAFT) can help families develop effective behavioral and motivational strategies to affect change in their loved one's destructive behaviors.
