The Leonard A. and Mary Jane Schafer Foundation Lecture

Award-winning Celtic fiddler Eileen Ivers will visit the campus for a special event in advance of her December return for an Irish Christmas concert.

For this preview, Ms. Ivers will be hosted by Dean of Libraries Luis Gonzalez and Music Librarian Carl Rahkonen. She will perform several traditional Celtic pieces that illustrate her culture and the repertoire, while Dr. Rahkonen will share information about the music, its history, and its relationship to Irish culture.

Those attending will be invited to ask questions and meet with Ms. Ivers following this informal performance. They will also be given information about the December concert and special discount coupons for that performance.

Winning awards for her incredible fiddling, Ivers has performed for presidents and royalty worldwide, including with the London Symphony Orchestra, the National Symphony at the Kennedy Center, and the Boston Pops. She has been called a “sensation” by Billboard magazine and “the Jimi Hendrix of the violin” by the New York Times. As a unique treat for its IUP performance, the group will be joined by the local gospel choir Voices of Joy for the December performance.
