Edit Content Through the Browser

  • Many of the web pages, or “content blocks,” for your site are already created for you. All you need to do is place your content into the empty blocks, or edit what is already there, whether published content or placeholder text.

If these pages do not already exist or if you have used up the content already created for you, see the section How to Add Content.

Follow this process to edit content using the Web browser:

    • Use the Web browser to navigate to the correct page. As you move your mouse over the content you wish to edit, you should see a green box around it. This indicates the content is checked in and available for editing.
    • Right-click within the green box, and a menu should appear. Below is a sample menu. The items in the menu will vary depending on the permissions granted to you, whether the content is available for editing, and other factors.

    1. To edit the content, click the Edit button on the menu. The workarea will open, and an editing window will appear (see below).

    1. You will then need to complete the following fields:
      1. Title Field: In the title field, located near the top of the screen, enter the title for your new content. The content title is only seen by web maintainers—it never appears on the website (except for uploaded files and news posts). Still, you want it to make sense, so it should probably match the title of the page layout on which it will appear.
      2. Content Tab: The Content tab is the main tab, and you should automatically be on this tab when you open the content for editing. Enter or edit your content here.

After you have finished editing, either Check In the content (which saves your work), or Submit it (which saves it and enters it into workflow so it can be published). The content will appear on the website after it has been reviewed and approved by your site approver and the Web Team. (If you are a site approver, your submissions come directly to the Web Team.)
