The Praxis Series provides tests and other services for states to use as part of the teacher licensing and certification process.
The Praxis I exams previously used by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) have been discontinued. They have been replaced by the Pre-Service Academic Performance Assessment (PAPA).
To be admitted to Step I of the IUP Three-Step Process, you must take and pass the PAPA.
Additionally, there are new exams for certifications in Early Childhood PreK-4, Special Education PreK-8, and Special Education 7-12. All teacher candidates seeking certification in these areas must take the Pennsylvania Educator Certification Tests (PECT)to qualify for student teaching.
All other Praxis II exams are currently the
same. Computer-based Praxis exams are administered year-round at the University Testing Center. To register for a Praxis exam or for information about the exams, please visit the ETS website.
Remember: no cell phones or electronic devices are allowed in the testing center!
View the Praxis Series website for additional information.
