Shouts of delight and surprise were heard as the cast list went up Monday night, marking musical theater’s spectacular return to Fisher Auditorium in the spring semester.

Auditions were held this past Sunday, November 28, for the Theater-by-the-Grove and IUP Music Theater coproduction of Carousel. Auditionees presented monologues and song excerpts and were given a short dance combination to learn. Carousel will have two performances, March 4 and 5, with the IUP Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Alexandra Dee. We are excited to announce that the production will be directed by guest artist James Beaudry, artistic director of Timberlake Playhouse.

Stagehands are also sought to help produce Carousel. To indicate an interest in an assignment to backstage production work, register using this Assignment Form. The producing staff will get back to you with an assignment or with questions. If you have questions before registering your assignment request, send a message to Brian Jones at brjones@iup.edu.

If you would like to perform in the IUP Symphony Orchestra, send a message to orchestra director Alex Dee at adee@iup.edu.

The musical is a coproduction of the two student organizations supported in part by the Student Cooperative Association. Theater-by-the-Grove is IUP’s professionally modeled theater company, and Music Theater is the Music Department’s musical theater and opera ensemble under the artistic direction of Oliver Lo.
