Mini-Grants for 2017-18 Reflective Practice Teaching Circles

  • The Reflective Practice (RP) of the Center for Teaching Excellence announces its call for Mini-Grant proposals to support both Cross-Disciplinary and Department Teaching Circles for the 2017–18 academic year. The awards are meant to help Teaching Circles sustain their productive activity and must be used to benefit all members of the group. The maximum amount is $500, although there is some flexibility, depending on the number of proposals received Mini-Grants awarded.  

    Examples of Successful Mini-Grant Applications

    Grants may be used for:

    • books and other educational materials (to include resources not otherwise available or obtainable by the IUP Libraries)
    • software, hardware, and courseware for curriculum development
    • student help with projects
    • faculty training costs
    • honoraria for speakers
    • website development
    • other appropriate activities that support teaching and faculty development as teacher-scholars

    Grants may not be used for:

    • food/beverages
    • marketing of academic programs
    • and non-Teaching Circle related expenses

    Any department or cross-disciplinary Teaching Circle may apply. Grant proposals will be awarded up to 20 points in each of the following categories for a maximum of 100 points:

    • impact of project on student learning
    • impact of project on faculty learning
    • feasibility of project
    • overall quality of proposal (including completeness and clarity of proposal)
    • quality of budget rationale

    Submission Deadline:

    • Friday, October 6, 2017, by 4:30 p.m.

    Teaching Circles must be registered before the submission deadline in order to take advantage of this opportunity.
