Thanks to the generosity
of LMKR, an international petroleum
technology company, Geoscience Department chair Steve Hovan and his
students are using the GeoGraphix and GVERSE platform to learn how to make
accurate decisions and mitigate oil and gas exploration and development risks.
The software, valued at $2.8 million, provides hands-on experience with a tool
the students can expect to see when they enter the work force. IUP is the only
university in the Northeast to provide this opportunity to students.
Pat Imbrogno ’78, a Pittsburgh area geologist and consultant, saw
the opportunity to help the department and connected LMKR to IUP. “Pat has been
a great friend to our department, and we are most grateful that LMKR has given
our students this wonderful opportunity,” Hovan said.
