William D. Speidel, III, CFRE

  • Bill SpeidelBill Speidel was appointed vice president for University Advancement at Indiana University of Pennsylvania on May 1, 2012. He initially joined IUP in February 2011 as associate vice president for Development, but assumed responsibility for managing the entire University Advancement Division shortly after his arrival, following a divisional reorganization.

    Speidel came to IUP from UPMC Passavant Hospital Foundation, where he served as director of Development; however, the majority of his experience has been in higher education.

    He served Butler County Community College for 14 years as vice president for Institutional Advancement and executive director of the college’s Education Foundation. In his role as vice president, he led the college’s first capital campaign, exceeding its goal by $1.3 million; initiated a planned giving program; and established the college’s first alumni association. He also supervised communications, government relations, and the strategic planning process. 

    Speidel served at Clarion University from 1986 to 1995, first as director of Annual Giving and then as director of Development.  

    He spent the early part of his career with the YMCA at locations in western Pennsylvania and Philadelphia.

    He earned his bachelor’s degree at Slippery Rock University and Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree at Clarion University. He has completed course work in the doctoral program in higher education management at the University of Pittsburgh.

    Speidel has been very involved professionally, earning Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) certification and a certificate from the National Planned Giving Institute at the College of William and Mary. He holds active memberships in the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), the Pittsburgh Planned Giving Council, and the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). 

    He currently lives in Butler County with his wife, Barbara. They are the parents of four adult children.
