Southern Border Series: A Photographic Cartography

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, an exhibit titled, "No Limits: A Photographic Cartography of Writers Along the U.S.-Mexico Border" will be held at 4:00 p.m. in HSS, room 126. Visiting artist, Alejandro Meter, is a professor of Latin American literature at the University of San Diego and his work has been exhibited in the United States, Mexico, and Argentina.This series is co-sponsored by the Social Equity and Title IX Office. In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, a multi-session culminating event for all students, staff, and faculty will take place on Saturday, October 19, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon in the HUB. The discussion sessions will be: Immigrants' Voices and Identity, Migrant Workers' Rights, Internal Militarization, Inside the Courtroom, and Foreigner vs. Invader. This series is co-sponsored by the Social Equity and Title IX Office. Decolonial Cuisine - Native American Heritage Month Celebration

Tuesday, November 12 through Friday, November 15:  Decolonial Cuisine - A culinary movement honoring the heritage of Indigenous America through their foodways and dietary choices. Indigenous America gave the world 3/5 of the crops now in cultivation including corn, beans, squash, tomatoes, potatoes, peanuts, chili peppers, chocolate, and vanilla. Come to The Allenwood in Ackerman Hall for a special menu each day between 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., November 12-15. Menu and pricing available at Allenwood-Lunch@iup.edu. This event is co-sponsored by NAAC and the Department of Hospitality Management.

November is National Native American Heritage Month! In celebration, the Native American Awareness Council (NAAC) will be hosting events of interest next week, November 12-15. All are open to the entire IUP community. Wednesday, November 13:  MASS Lunch and Learn with the Native American Awareness Council - A special edition of the Multicultural Affairs and Student Success Lunch and Learn will feature guest speaker, Carrie House. House is a Two-Spirit Navajo (Dine) and Onieda filmmaker, writer, and presenter of social justice issues, LGBTQ2, and cultural and environmental issues. This event will take place in the Elkin Hall Great Room from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. A free lunch is included for all students who wish to attend.
