Women, Pop Music, and Pornography

  • October 20

Presented by Meredith Levande, singer, songwriter, and lecturer.

In a multi-media presentation, Meredith Levande will look at representations of female pop stars in the current deregulated media environment. Throughout her presentation, she will reveal the large corporate ownership of pornography and its interests in portraying women in ways that promote pornography. She will show clips of popular music videos and images, and pinpoint how, collectively, these images contribute to an overall mainstreaming of pornography.

    Co-sponsored by the Sociology Department.
