Stigma: a Major Barrier to Recovery from Substance Abuse Disorders

  • What is stigma? How does stigma hinder looking for help and recovery? What can we do to stop stigmatizing substance abuse disorders?

Join a conversation with Erick Lauber, director of Community Health and Leadership at the MARTI Institute; Desiree Franey, certified recovery specialist at Armstrong-Indiana-Clarion Drug and Alcohol Commission; and Seth Sunseri, in long-term recovery. Panel members will discuss stigma and ways we may be unwittingly stigmatizing persons looking for help with their substance abuse disorders. Why we need to stop this stigmatization will also be covered. Comments and questions from the audience will be encouraged.

Cosponsored by the Mid-Atlantic Research and Training Institute for Community and Behavioral Health (MARTI-CBH).
