Censorship vs. Freedom of Information

  • Banned Books WeekThe Internet has empowered the individual by providing instantaneous access to vast information and greater opportunities to publicly share thoughts, ideas, and information with the world. Still, even in the information age, challenges to freedom of information persist and new threats emerge.

Recent events, such as those involving Wikileaks, Bradley Manning, and, most recently, Edward Snowden, demonstrate the complicated nature of freedom of information. As part of Banned Books Week, a panel of individuals representing multiple perspectives will discuss the ways in which censorship limits the right to access information and the resulting effects on society.

    • Monday, September 23
    • HUB Ohio Room
    • 6:00–7:30 p.m.

    Cosponsored by the IUP Libraries.
